Eurofilm Mantzaris chooses BST’s iPQ-Surface for automatic inspection of blown film extrusion.
A leader in plastic films and specialized in tailor-made PE-based solutions, Greek converter Eurofilm Mantzaris S.A. has, in recent years, increased its production of high value-added materials, including structures for lamination, MDO, and easy-peel films, also for the food sector.
These products require not only excellent optical properties but also impeccable surface quality and compliance with strict regulations. Hence, the need to ensure perfect quality control on the blown film extrusion line, identifying any defects in real time without compromising productivity. In this interview, Pantelis Kiliaris, CEO Assistant at Eurofilm Mantzaris, explains the solutions they adopted, why, and the results achieved.
Dr. Kiliaris, Eurofilm Mantzaris is well known for its high-quality products. What did you need to continue fulfilling this promise?
To ensure not only the highest quality of our films but also their consistency and uniformity-without sacrificing production efficiency.
That’s why we decided to invest in a solution that allows real-time identification and correction of defects in our blown film extrusion process. It was a significant but essential investment to meet our clients’ expectations.
For which products is this system used?
In-depth, continuous inspection is always valuable, but it becomes crucial in the production of high value-added flexible packaging films. MDO structures, easy-peel films, and lamination films in general require exceptional optical performance. Moreover, these films are often subject to strict regulatory and quality standards, especially when used in sensitive applications such as food packaging. But that’s not all: by adopting advanced defect detection and material monitoring technologies, we aimed not only to improve product quality but also to optimize production efficiency-ensuring operational excellence and long-term customer satisfaction.
Why did you choose the BST iPQ-Surface?
Because it offers a comprehensive and reliable solution for defect detection in our blown film extrusion process. The system’s advanced real-time defect detection capabilities-including the identification of imperfections such as gels, air bubbles, scratches, along with their categorization to better assist operators-were key factors in our decision. Additionally, the modular structure of iPQ-Surface allowed us to customize the system to our specific needs, ensuring seamless integration into Eurofilm Mantzaris’s production lines.
Are you satisfied with this choice?
Completely. The high precision of the iPQ-Surface makes it an extremely effective tool for consistently delivering high-quality products. In particular, the BST system has significantly improved our ability to detect defects in real time, allowing us to address issues quickly and maintain high production standards. It’s reliable, efficient, features an intuitive interface, and integrates smoothly with our production lines. In short, iPQ-Surface has met our expectations and continues to support our commitment to maintaining top quality in our production processes.
What role has your relationship with BST played in all of this?
The relationship between Mantzaris and BST has always been very positive and productive.
We are satisfied with the ongoing collaboration, as BST has consistently shown great responsiveness and speed in addressing our needs and requests.
The supplier’s team has demonstrated strong professionalism, providing valuable support at every stage, and the proposed solutions-iPQ-Surface and beyond-have proven effective in helping us achieve our quality goals. As a testament to the trust built over time, the collaboration recently led to the purchase of a sixth iPQ-Surface system-a concrete confirmation
of the technology’s effectiveness and the added value of our partnership with BST.
We truly value this partnership and the attention to detail shown by BST. The cooperation has been smooth, and we’re excited to continue building on this solid and mutually beneficial relationship
